Benjamin Kolodziej: Online Resources for the Church Organist

From presenter Benjamin Kolodziej: “Rather than listing websites which provide copyright-free music to download, I have gone through these sites to find collections/composers most beneficial to the church organist. I have discovered long-lost sets of lovely chorale preludes and hymn settings which deserve to be heard, and composers who should be better known. I’ve also discovered some living composers whose music is incredibly practical for the organist having to learn new music each week. It is often overwhelming to confront, for example, IMSLP, the main website for copyright-free music which most of us use, if one is looking for a chorale prelude easy enough to learn for the next Sunday’s service. Because online resources are always changing, I’m always adapting my presentation as I make new discoveries.”
Benjamin Kolodziej is former Dean of the Dallas AGO chapter and is organist/choirmaster at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Dallas. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in sacred music and theology from Southern Methodist University.
